MegaSD flash card Unboxing, simple evaluation

The flash card packaging box continues the style of the previous Super SD System 3, which is a simple paper tray, a folding single-page paper manual and a cassette body packaged in a bubble bag.

Due to the circuit that simulates MDCD, the size of the cassette circuit board is relatively large. The plastic casing of the burning card uses a large cassette that is exactly the same as the MD VR racing genuine cassette. The case is very good, smooth and sturdy, the case is translucent, and you can see the general situation of the circuit board and components inside. The serial number of the cassette is printed on the sticker on the back of the circuit board, which is the same as the serial number displayed in the system menu when the cassette is running. TF card slot, cassette function button, light green indicator are all on the right side of the front of the cassette. The contact feeling of the cassette inserted into the MD card slot is very good, and it is more reliable.

The usage of MegaSD flash card is similar to Super SD System 3. The rom files can be centralized in a self-built directory of the TF card (the maximum number of files is not more than 1000). The MDCD iso file requires a separate directory for each game ( All files of a multi-disc game need to be placed in the same directory). A directory called BIOS is created in the root directory, and the BIOS files of each version of each region of the MDCD are placed in this directory. The MD host first shows the MegaSD logo, and then the system menu interface. Under the menu, press the C key of the 1P handle to enter the option menu, select the option to specify the BIOS, and specify the BIOS files for the European version, the US version, and the Japanese version of the MDCD. Then select the MD cassette game or MDCD disc game you want to play, press A, the screen will first show the game area and other information, and then you will officially enter the game. The cassette game reads the TF card at one time, and the light green indicator light on the cassette flashes quickly when reading, and then it will not operate the TF card except for the SL in the game; CD games often access the TF when reading data and audio tracks Card, the light green indicator light will flash slowly. For multi-disc game changing, you can press the function button on the right side of the cassette, the button feels soft, please be sure to press it to the end, but don’t press it for a long time (long press is to reset and return to the flash card system menu).

The function of MegaSD to play MD cassette games is basically the same as that of Ukraine’s Mega Everdrive. It also uses MagicKey technology to run cross-region games. However, MegaSD does not have the functions specified by Mega Everdrive to simulate other regions. The English title of Twin Hawk was shown on board. But MegaSD has 8 real-time archive bits, which is more convenient than Mega Everdrive. The technology of instant archive itself is no different, and some games have a slight abnormal picture or concert after instant SL.

MegaSD also runs Mark III / SMS games directly, but there is no feature like Mega Everdrive that can show the SMS BIOS screen before running the game.

The characteristics of MegaSD playing 32X games are exactly the same as those of Mega Everdrive, which cannot span regions. The area of 32X games that can be played depends on the area of the MD console. And when MegaSD is plugged in 32X, it cannot run MDCD games, nor can it play cross-region MD card games. If you want to run 32X CD games, you need to purchase an adapter from TerraOnion. Insert the MegaSD card into the expansion port of the MD host to connect to the real MDCD hardware. At the same time, insert the cassette slot with 32X. I won’t compete for so many games).

The following is the most important, MegaSD plays MDCD games. MegaSD will automatically detect the available BIOS files. Supported BIOS models include Mega CD 1st and 2nd Generation, Sega CD 1st and 2nd Generation, CDX, Multi Mega, Wonder Mega 1st and 2nd Generation. Supported regions include Japan, US, Europe, and other BIOS It is not displayed directly when specified in the system menu. I tried a variety of BIOSes and everything works fine. After selecting an MDCD game in the system menu, you will first enter the BIOS of the designated corresponding area. I have n’t touched the real MDCD hardware before, so it ’s a little surprising that MDCD can enter the CD music player to play the game track before running the game (because PCECD does n’t have this feature, it is impossible to insert a CD when a game disc is inserted The playback interface allows you to use it). Although the noise of the MD generation is not small, it is still a pleasure to enjoy playing these audio CDs with headphones. In addition, you can also choose to enter the archive management interface on the CD player interface just like the real MDCD hardware. The MegaSD burning card can simulate internal storage and external storage separately for each MDCD game. Game compatibility needs to be improved by subsequent firmware. I tried Sonic CD, Ecco The Dolphin generation, and Final Fight CD. The Japanese version of Final Fight CD automatically demonstrated to GUY’s profile on one screen and it stopped responding 100%. Final Fight CD Both the US version and the US version randomly stop responding after passing a certain level. In addition, the ending screen after the clearance is also 100% unable to appear. The Sonic CD and Ecco The Dolphin generations have not found any abnormalities (in fact, it is in a hurry, and there is no continuous long-term test). The music speed of the screen is normal when the game is running, and the reading speed is naturally smoother than the actual MDCD (in fact, there is an option in the option that can simulate the seek time of the bald head, but the official recommends that it should not be turned on under normal circumstances). Running other MDCD games, I believe there may be various small problems. It should be said that for the burning card that is mainly used to play MDCD games, the current level of compatibility is not satisfactory, but it is estimated that the official follow-up firmware updates will be gradually corrected. After all, some MDCD games cannot be fully operated and cannot be ignored Big problem.

Limited time. For the time being, I can post these comments if you are interested. I will continue to post further tests. The real pictures are unavailable, all are stolen from the Internet, because I do n’t have a shooting device, I can only apologize.

The screen display of the updated firmware is probably like the picture below.
